O-range Wine by C. Varonier & Söhne

We know red wine, white wine and rosé wine – and now there is even an orange wine. Orange Wine is a relatively new type of wine that is becoming increasingly popular. Although it is not yet widely known in this country, there are signs that this will soon change.

The design of the ceramic wine bottle

The ceramic wine bottle from C. Varonier & Söhne was coated in black matte and then provided with a noble digital print. A haptic experience offers the border of the bottle in larger and smaller rhombuses. A bottle that just screams to take it in your hands.

Swiss Orange Wines in special wine bottles

Orange Wines are not only trendy but also come in very nice innovative wine bottles on the market. One example is the Orange Wine from C. Varonier & Sons.

The wine bottle

Orange wine bottle is not a standard glass wine bottle, but a ceramic bottle. Ceramic jugs, as they are commonly called, are in high demand in the beverage industry right now. Like glass, ceramic jugs are food-safe, acid- and alkali-resistant, microwaveable, and even carbonated beverages can be bottled. But ceramic jugs also have it in them visually: they stand out!

Not ordinary wine bottle shape

The shape of the bottle is also unusual. One would assume that this is a spirit. At present, the market shows that wine producers are becoming more and more creative with the choice of bottle shapes. The tendency is that wines are increasingly bottled in bottles of other beverages. An example is also the sparkling wine “Freyja”. A sparkling apricot wine bottled in a traditional longneck beer bottle.

The production of Orange Wine

Orange Wine is a white wine, which is produced like a red wine and fermented on the mash. This gives the wine its orange color, which leads to the fact that in addition to white, red and rosé, the color orange is now traded as a fourth wine color.

The unusual method of production gives the wine its color. In order for the Orange Wine to get its color, the white wine is fermented on the mash for as long as possible during production. Through this fermentation, Orange Wines have a higher tannin content than the conventional white wines. Due to the long maceration process, more colorants and tannins are released from the skins and pass into the wine. This gives the wine its intense color.

It is also special that the Orange Wine is produced with spontaneous fermentation. Thus, no specially bred yeast is added for fermentation. This process of fermentation is triggered by naturally present yeasts.

Orange Wine: A new production method?

A clear No. The Orange Wine has its origin in Georgia. In Georgia, this method of production has been carried out for thousands of years. In order to produce wine in this natural way, so-called amphorae, or kvevris, are often used. In this country, however, large and used barriques or wooden barrels are also used.

How does Orange Wine taste?

It is said that an Orange Wine opens up new worlds of taste. These are sometimes very surprising and unusual for the consumer. Since the wine contains more tannins, it also tastes quite different from normal white wines. Since Orange Wine is bottled unfiltered, it often has a slightly cloudy color, but this does not affect the quality of the wine. The complex character of Orange Wines divides the spirits: some like the unique flavors, but others can not do anything with this taste. To be on the safe side, you should definitely taste some Orange Wines.

Is Orange Wine the same as a natural wine ?

Orange Wine is often referred to as natural wine. Natural wines are based on the principle of organic or biodynamic viticulture, grapes harvested by hand, spontaneous fermentation without the addition of yeast or the abandonment of fining. Most often, the addition of sulfur is also abandoned. One speaks of natural wine if it is an untreated wine and has been produced with the least possible intervention.
Orange Wine, on the other hand, is a wine that has been produced using special winemaking techniques.
