For many years, the city of Aarau has united art and wine in a tradition that is as original as it is refined: every year, a special edition is created in collaboration with local artists. The result is a unique wine that is as appealing in taste as it is in appearance. For each vintage, an artist proposes several label designs – and it’s the town president who chooses the final illustration. The result, year after year, is a wine with character, reflecting the culture, creativity and richness of the region.

A wine of origin and character

The grapes for Ortsbürgerwy 2023 come from the sunny vineyard of Herznach (AG), whose location in the Aargau Jura offers ideal conditions for optimal ripening. The estate is cultivated according to Integrated Production (IP) standards, guaranteeing sustainable, environmentally-friendly farming. Vinification is carried out with care and expertise by Wehrli Weinbau AG, a family-run business renowned for its high standards of quality and its commitment to viticulture that respects nature.

Wehrli Weinbau: a passion for wine for four generations

Located in the heart of the canton of Aargau, the Wehrli estate covers around 11 hectares of vines, spread over a wide variety of terroirs. Founded by Peter Wehrli’s parents, the estate has been passionately developed by Peter and his wife Marlise. Today, their children Rolf and Susi are energetically pursuing this adventure: Rolf is responsible for the strategic and technical management of the estate, while Susi, with experience in Australia, Burgundy and French-speaking Switzerland, brings a modern and enriching vision. Alongside them, her husband Franz Steiger – a former gourmet chef turned winegrower – plays a creative role in the estate’s innovation.

With the gradual arrival of the fourth generation, the transmission of the family know-how is assured, promising a flourishing future for the Wehrli estate.

A personalised bottle with a unique design

For Ortsbürgerwy 2023, the artist Alexandra Siebert, a graphic and motion designer based in Aarau, was chosen. She came up with a bold, expressive label in shades of purple, inspired by the painted gables of the town’s old houses. By incorporating floral motifs and symmetrical ornamentation in a contemporary style, she reinterprets the local architectural heritage with finesse. The result is a strong, elegant visual identity that pays tribute to Aarau’s cultural richness – on a bottle that becomes a real collector’s item.

Digital printing: for unrivalled artistic precision

The choice of printing method was made in close collaboration with the artist – and the natural choice was digital printing. This technology makes it possible to reproduce every nuance of colour and every detail of an elaborate visual with extreme precision. Unlike screen printing, where the palette is limited to a few colours, digital printing offers exceptional fidelity, ideal for complex, multi-coloured illustrations.

This process lends itself perfectly to small, exclusive series like the Ortsbürgerwy, and has already been successfully used for the 2021 editions.

Our glass printing methods: for maximum impact

Whether you’re looking for a sleek, elegant design or a bright, creative visual, Univerre Pro Uva offers two high-quality printing techniques to enhance your glass bottles. Each process has its own advantages – depending on your design, graphic charter and desired volume.

Screen printing on glass – Tradition, elegance and durability

Screen printing combines traditional craftsmanship with precision: up to six colours – including precious metals such as gold and platinum – can be applied directly to the glass. The ceramic inks are then vitrified at high temperature, ensuring a hard-wearing, dishwasher-safe finish. Perfect for refined logos, clean lines and premium visuals with a tactile effect.

  • Intense, full colours
  • High-end rendering with precious finishes
  • Dishwasher and wear resistant
  • Ideal for medium and large runs

Digital printing – Total freedom for creative designs

Digital printing opens up new horizons when it comes to glass decoration: its virtually unlimited palette means you can reproduce subtle gradations, complex illustrations or photographs – with remarkable fidelity. With no need for stencils or plates, it’s ideal for small runs, limited editions or variable designs.

  • Faithful reproduction of visuals, photos & gradients
  • Great flexibility for small quantities
  • No form costs – ideal for one-off pieces or collections
